Why I Love The Ingredients In Emily’s Homestead Silk + Protein Shampoo Bar

If you read my last post, then you know that I am touching base again on some of my all time favorite beauty products, shampoo and conditioner bars.

Recently I posted about how the ingredients in the IndigoDesertMoon Conditioner Bar work to nourish and repair heat damaged hair. Today I want to share the beneficial ingredients in my favorite shampoo bar, the Silk & Protein Shampoo Bar from Emily’s Homestead.

I have tried multiple shampoo bars from both IndigoDesertMoon and Emily’s Homestead (IndigoDesertMoon’s Argan Oil Shampoo Bar is actually what got me hooked on shampoo and conditioner bars back in 2015) but Emily’s Homestead’s Silk & Protein Shampoo Bar is by far my favorite.

As one would probably guess from the name, the lather feels a bit silkier and seems to tug a bit less at the hair than other shampoo bars that I have tried. Having a silkier feeling lather just makes the washing process easier and a bit faster. To read more about what I mean by ‘tugging less’ check out this post where I share what to expect when starting to use shampoo bars and how I recommend using them.

Now, lets talk about some natural ingredients in this bar!

Rice Bran Oil – This is an inredient that may not be as commonly known in the beauty world. According to the Journal of Scientific and Industrial Research, rice bran oil contains a natural antioxidant called y-oryzanol. Y-oryzanol contains ferulic acid which stimulates hair growth. If you want to read more about the research done on rice bran oil and y-orzanol you can download the article for free here!

Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Castor Oil, Hemp Seed Oil – These are some more commonly known oils. I mentioned in my last post that if you have been reading beauty blogs for the last 5 years or so, then you have probably read all of the hype surrounding these oils. In my personal experience (and so many others!) these oils are incredible for repairing, moisturizing, and strengthening the hair.

Cocoa Butter – An all natural butter that is lightweight and aids in nourishing the hair and adding shine.

Jojoba Oil – Better known in the green beauty world for it’s skincare benefits, jojoba oil has actually been shown to to protect African American hair from protein loss and other damaging affects while being chemically straightened. This piece of infomration leads me to believe that jojoba oil most likely has repairing and protective effects on the hair in other scenarios as well. You can read the abstract to the study that concluded this here.

Wheat Protein – Prevents breakage by adding moisture and elasticity to the hair. Read more here.

Hemp Seed Oil – According to this article, hemp seed oil is not only ultra nourishing, but also strengthens the hair and is great for the scalp.

Lastly this super silky shampoo bar contains tea tree oil and grapefruit essential oil. Tea tree oil is lovely for stimulating hair growth and encouraging volume and both these scents together are incredibly fresh!

Thanks for reading!℘
