I went far too long without my shampoo and conditioner bars. If you have been reading my blog for a while then you probably already know that I have an undying appreciation for a couple of shampoo bars and one conditioner bar off of Etsy.
To read more about the positive effects shampoo and conditioner bars have had on my hair check out this post.
To read more about what to expect when using shampoo and conditioner bars and how they are a bit different than liquid shampoo and conditioner go to this post.
I want to dive a little bit deeper into the why and how these products are so effective. I have been loving writing shorter blog posts lately (and have a couple of longer ones that I am working on) so I thought I would write one post about the ingredients in the conditioner bar and write another post about the ingredients in my favorite shampoo bar.
The conditioner bar that I love from IndigoDesertMoon has only 6 ingredients.
The first one being Behentrimonium Methosulfate. I know, this sounds like a scary chemical, but keep just keep reading and let me explain. It is derived from modified rapeseed oil and is simply a compound of ammonium salt. It acts as an emulsifier, aids in de-tangling hair, and is used in the creation of soap for it’s ability to create a super creamy lather and for it’s lack of suds once the soap is exposed to water. Other oils (like coconut oil for example) are a bit more drying and cause the soap to get extremely sudsy when exposed to water; suds may be what we want in shampoo, but not in conditioner.
The next three ingredients all serve similar purposes.
Mango butter, argan oil, and coconut oil.
All of these ingredients are ultra nourishing and moisturizing. I have seen amazing hydration effects on my own skin with just the use of of argan oil and have seen incredible repairing effects on my own hair when using coconut oil as a hair mask. If you’ve been a frequent reader of the beauty blogging world you have probably already read multiple praises for argan and coconut oil and many plant based butters.
The IndigoDesertMoon Conditioner Bar also consists of Vitamin E – another ultra nourishing ingredient found in tons of natural hair and skincare products.
Lastly the conditioner bar includes D-panthenolp; another ingredient that may be a bit less recognizable to some. D-panthenol is derived from Vitamin B5. It is another nourishing ingredient and is used in hair products to help repair damaged hair.
If you would like to read more about D-panthenol check out this article by Clinical Herbalist, Paulina Nelega.
Like I mentioned in my first post about shampoo and conditioner bars, this conditioner bar seriously repairs nearly all of the heat styling hair damage I expose my hair to. I used to see huge negative side effects in my hair when I would heat style it multiple times a week; when I started using the conditioner bar I began seeing just a fraction of the heat damage due to the ultra nourishing and repairing ingredients in the conditioner bar.
