Seed PhytoNutrients has been turning heads with their eco-friendly packaging by Ecologic for some time now. This article goes into more depth about Ecologic’s packaging and explains how Seed PhytoNutrients was made possible by seeds from organic American farmers, a sustainable packaging company, and (surprisingly enough) L’Oreal.
Here’s a few tid bits of info from the article to give a brief overview of why this packaging is so eco-friendly.
“We struggled to find the right technology, equipment, and people,” she admits, explaining that Ecologic relied too heavily on manual labor and found it impossible to scale. So focused was the company on fixing the manufacturing process that they began ignoring calls and emails from potential clients—among them, Scott Schienvar, head of supply chain operations at L’Oreal.
A recyclable, compostable shampoo bottle is a tall order, but teamwork made it happen.
Their actual formulation comes in a small plastic lining that is made of food grade recycled plastic and that is 60% thinner than the average plastic bottle. The liner is held within a compostable and recylablable cardboard bottle, that is made to be stored in the shower.
As proud as the Seed and Ecologic teams are of their accomplishment, this is just the beginning. “We use post-consumer paper now,” Schienvar says. “But soon, we’ll be making these containers from our own waste paper and cardboard boxes.” That will then create a closed loop, which will bring Seed one step closer to the ideal vision of zero waste.
Furthermore, Seed PhytoNutrients products consist of non-toxic and primarily natural ingredients; many of which are cold expeller pressed from the organic seeds mentioned above.
I’ve tried a small handful of Seed’s products, one of which was recently gifted to me by Seed PhytoNutrients, their Volume Texture Spray.
I’ve found this product to be a super helpful multi use product for keeping my everyday casual curls in place. It acts as a light hold hair spray that gives just enough hold to keep my curls from falling out, but also adds an extra peice-y and beachy textured look to my waves.
As a naturally fine and strait haired dirty blonde, I love finding products that I can mist over my curls to not only keep them in place, but to also create a natural and textured look that lends to my fantasy of having naturally wavey hair.
* Is Seed PhytoNutirents Cruelty Free you may ask?

To be honest I was a tad turned off by Seed PhytoNutrients when I learned that they were funded by L’Oreal as it sort of set off my ‘greenwashing’ alarm (if you’re not familiar with greenwashing, google it to be informed in a matter of seconds), but after reading into the funding, the story, and the relationship between L’Oreal and Seed a bit more, I began to interpret it as quite a positive concept. Basically a multi-billon-dollar (probably more $ realistically?) is investing money that has been spent by consumers too launch an affordable non-toxic beauty brand with revolutionary eco-friendly packaging instead of putting those same dollars towards beauty products full of ingredients with questionable safety that are held within single use plastic. To me, this is progress and I love seeing it.
