Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday because there is nothing that I love more than a day filled with family and food.
I began writing this post just a couple of days before Thanksgiving, but with working on my Black Friday Green Beauty Shopping Guides, enjoying Thanksgiving with my family, and going out of town for a few days, I wasn’t able to get this post finished until today.
Yes, I know that I am almost a week and half late to the ‘This year I am thankful for’ Thanksgiving party, BUT, I figure it’s always a good time to express gratitude. Plus, I’m cheesy and anyone who knows me well knows that I am all about that holiday spirit this time of year.
So for anyone wanting to read about some nice things, here are a few things that I am thankful for.
A Day Of Just Staying Home
I spent my first two years out of high school going to school full time and working full time. Before that, I had always been quite a busy body. About half way through college I realized that I had completely run myself down.
I pushed through the rest of my Associates of Arts Degree and began to learn how to take time for myself and rest, even if it meant a smaller pay check and being slightly behind on homework. Since finishing school back in March, I have actually gotten quite good at taking lazy days – sometimes too good. I’m still figuring out the balance between work, play, and (my current favorite) rest, but hey, aren’t we all?
None the less I love a day at home full of writing, walking my dog, getting a household chore done, cooking, and doing things that rejuvenate my soul.
Education
Even though I burnt myself out a bit when I was in school, I am still so grateful that I got the chance to learn as much as I did.
My English 102 class helped me rediscover my love for writing and my Intro To Mass Media Class taught me so much about networking and marketing.ย My Environmental Biology class taught me the importance of sustainability and inspired me to look into the effect that cosmetic ingredients have on our environment and furthered my interest in ethical fashion. I also watched a documentary called ‘Happy’ in my Health & Happiness class that changed my life. I put a link to this documentary’s website, I highly recommend that everyone watches it.
Veggies & Self Care
For the last year and a half I have been working on cleaning up my diet. I still enjoy quite a bit of pizza, ice cream, macaroni and cheese, and dark beer and sweet wine, but I have been making an effort to incorporate more veggies into my diet and I can’t believe how much better I feel (shocker, right?).
I have also made staying hydrated and getting enough sleep more of a priority – again, its great stuff.
Yogaย
I would say that I practice yoga semi regularly. I try to do yoga a couple of times a week but I definitly have weeks where I do not practice at all. Yoga has completely changed and bettered my posture which I am so grateful for.
I love SaraBeth’s yoga videos.
Blogging
Within the last month and a half I have dove headfirst into my blog. I had wanted to do this for about a year and (just as I thought I would) I love blogging. There is something so cathartic, empowering, and blissful about having a platform where I can write about the things that are important to me. Furthermore, I want to express my appreciation to anyone who has taken the time to read my blog or support me and my blog in any way, whether it be on social media or in person, it has meant so much to me.
Having A Small Apartment
Me and my boyfriend moved into our first apartment together back in June and we ended up in a rather small space. This has forced me to get rid of so much clutter and, for lack of a better word, crap, that I did not need or want. It also forced me to be creative in the ways that I decorate and organize things which has actually been quite a fun challenge.
Well,
This post only got a little bit sappy, but like I mentioned before, I am pretty good at things like that. I am just proud of myself for keeping this post well under a thousand words.
Obviously I am eternally grateful for my loved ones but I just wanted to share a few unique things that I am grateful for. As I have gotten older I have found myself simply appreciating the feeling of gratitude, it is truly so humbling, real, and really puts things into perspective.
Thank you for reading & I would love if you left a comment about something that you are grateful for.
